Dog Friendly Ice Lollies!!
by Emily Freeman and Rachel Taunton // June 2018
Help your pooch cool down on hot days this summer with tasty doggie pupsicles!!
They’re not only easy to make, but kind on the bank balance as well. These tasty treats can be made in advance and stored in the freezer for when you need them. If you don’t have any moulds to put your pupsicles in, you can use a small empty yoghurt pot, plastic party cups, or you can use their existing food enrichment games like below;
Here are our dog’s favourite savoury and sweet homemade pupsicle recipes to get you started…
If your dog loves chicken and can’t resist a savoury treat, this pupsicle is the perfect treat for them!
1 low sodium chicken stock cube.
Half a cup of water.
A handful of chopped cooked chicken meat.
How to make:
Prepare and cool down the chicken stock, then mix in a bowl with the chopped-up chicken.
Pour into popsicle moulds or ice cube trays and add a Boneo, carrot stick, or other long crunchy treats to act as a popsicle stick.
Put in the freezer to set overnight.
Peanut Banana Pupsicle
If your dog has a bit of a sweet tooth and LOVES peanut butter and banana… This popsicle will go down a treat!
½ a cup of plain yoghurt.
2 tbsp smooth peanut butter – avoid Peanut butter containing Xylitol
How to make:
- Put the yoghurt, banana and peanut butter into a blender or food processor and puree until the mixture is smooth and creamy. If you don’t have a blender mash the banana with a fork and add in the other ingredients and mix together.
- Divide the mixture into the moulds and add a Boneo, carrot stick, or other long crunchy treats to act as a popsicle stick.
- Place in the freezer overnight to set.
You don’t have to just stick to these recipes you can get creative and invent your own, just double check all the ingredients are safe for your dog to eat.
