My first day as a Dog School Coach
by Nathalie Fraser // May 2017
Hello everyone! My name’s Nathalie and today I started my new role as a Coach at Dog School Glasgow. How exciting!
My previous job was working in customer service and I’ve always enjoyed interacting with the public. I’ve always been completely in love with dogs as well and it’s been my dream to find a job that would allow me to work with them. You can imagine I was thrilled when I was offered this role, a job which would combine both!
The morning of my first day at Dog School was full of excitement and nerves. I live quite locally to our office but in my haste to make sure I wasn’t late, I set off ridiculously early to allow for traffic. As you may have guessed, I arrived with plenty of time to spare.
I started the day with the team giving me a tour of the Glasgow rehoming centre where our office is based (spotting countless beautiful dogs I would take home with me right now if I was able to!). I met the other staff on site – far too many names for me to remember in one day, but I’m sure I’ll get there eventually. Once back in the office, I got down to the task of tackling the paperwork that comes with starting any new job, something I actually secretly enjoy… I was also quite surprised by how much preparation and admin work that is involved with this role, it means every day will be busy although I do love a good spreadsheet!
That evening we headed off to our training classes in Hamilton. We had two adult classes back to back and it was really good to see how classes are delivered. For now I’m assisting our Senior Coach John Paul during class, giving owners support whilst they practice, taking photos for our Twitter and Instagram pages and of course sneaking in some canine cuddles when I can. Before I know it, classes were over and we headed off back to the centre to go home! So as first days go it’s been really busy and lots of fun, so I’m excited to see what the rest of the week has in store!
