DIY Tug Toy!
Here at Dog School we go through lots of toys during classes, and toy shopping for replacements can become a very expensive and time consuming job. Instead of buying all new toys for the dogs, we instead salvage pieces of old blanket and materials to use to make our own tug toys instead!
Please follow this tutorial to find out how easy it is to make your own DIY tug toy out of your old blankets…
You will need:
A large piece of old blanket. Materials that do not fray are the best, the stronger the material the better.
A pair of scissors
Lay your piece of blanket flat on the floor, and cut this piece of blanket into 3 (almost) equal sections.
Once your blanket is cut up, take the top of the three pieces together and tie a simple knot as close to the top of the pieces as possible. Tighten the knot as much as you can so this will not come undone when your dog is playing with the tug.
When your knot is as tight as possible you can begin to plait the three strands. Start by laying the individual strands out flat, and take the outside right strand into the middle of the other two strands, and then the outside left strand into the middle of the other strands. Repeat this and tighten as you go along so your plait is not likely to come loose.
Continue to plait until you reach about 6 inches (15cms) from the end of the tug. With this remaining fabric tie a knot as you did with the top end of the tug, and tighten it as much as you can.
You’re finished!! You should be finished with two knots and a plait between. Now all that is left to do is show your dog your new masterpiece!
