Our day with the Dogmobile…

A day out to promote Dogs Trust!

In August we had the pleasure of assisting the Dogmobile staff on their adventures!

The Dogmobile is manned by the lovely Laura and Cathy and they travel the whole of the UK, covering all of the Dogs Trust branches and surrounding areas. Their aim is to promote Dogs Trust and the dogs they have available for rehoming at that time, in fact they take current residents out with them for the day.

The mobile itself is fantastic, a purpose built van which welcomes people on board to view and discuss all information stocked... there is even fun Dogs Trust merchandise to buy such as sponsor dog fridge magnets, dog harnesses and even poo bags!

They promote all Dogs Trust ventures from the neutering campaign, foster dog schemes to ourselves - Dog School!

They graced Northern Ireland for 4 days and each of the Dog School staff had the opportunity to join them for a day each without disrupting our daily training classes.

I joined them on the Tuesday and we took along the adorable Rosie and Poppy, two little Cavalier King Charles Spaniels who had found themselves in Ballymena rehoming centre needing a new home due to their owners ill health.  The two sisters thoroughly enjoyed their day out and definitely attracted plenty of attention from the Coleraine crowd.

I took the opportunity to show how to train Poppy and Rosie to sit using our positive reinforcement methods and they definitely appreciated the yummy treats I had to offer as a reward.  We even finished our demonstration with a few fun tricks!

It was a nice chance to talk to people about the work Dogs School carries out, we spoke to new puppy owners about the benefits of getting the right start and to owners of more mature dogs who needed a little help with more specific issues.

It was super special to meet some ex-residents and even some that had been through our classes and were reaping the benefits of the fun, reward based training we taught. It was clear to see how the dog-owner bond had  developed from this.

It was a lovely experience to meet and greet the public, to let them see the dogs we help on a daily basis and let them know we are here to give them a helping hand with their new companion  - from puppy training to all and any other training problems they may have with their slightly older choice of friend.

We look forward to the opportunity again next year!

If you are interested in any of our classes we cover the Antrim, Belfast and Ballymena areas with a variety of time options that should suit most people.
