My First Week at Dog School Nottinghamshire!

My First Week at Dog School Nottinghamshire

Hello everyone! I’m Ella, and I’ve just started my new role as Coach at Dog School Nottinghamshire.

Animals have always been my passion, and even as a small child I had a thirst for knowledge and could not wait to learn more. It led me to undertake my degree in Zoology, but even then, I felt I had not learnt enough about what really interested me- companion animals. After growing up with a menagerie of pets (dogs, cats, rodents…you name it!) I wanted to learn more about their behaviour and why they do the things they do. My masters in Clinical Animal Behaviour gave me this insight and immersed me in the world of training and behaviour.

When I got the job as Coach at the Dog School Nottinghamshire, I could not believe my luck! Working in the field I am passionate about and joining a great team, helping to educate owners and prevent behaviour problems in dogs through training is a dream. My first week has been busy, but rewarding; I have been learning about all the important everyday things that happen behind the scenes, such as answering enquiries, writing up training progress reports and preparing for practical training. In the evenings, I have assisted our Head Coach, Chelsea with practical training classes for both adult dogs and puppies, helping owners with loose lead walking and recall amongst many other things. I have also gone to 1-2-1 training sessions and had the chance to meet the lovely owners and their dogs who come to Dog School Nottinghamshire, for an even more personal training experience.

For the last few days, I have been visiting Dog School East Midlands to see how things are done here and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Head Coach Karen’s gorgeous Labrador, Marley. Overall, it has been a great week and I cannot wait to continue with my own training at Dogs Trust Dogs School! I am looking forward to getting to know all the ins and outs of my role as Coach and learning a little more everyday about dog training.
